Cossus javanus

Cossus javanus
(Peninsular Malaysia)

Diagnosis.
See Cossus chloratus Swinhoe. The uniserrate/pectinate antennae of the male have the pectinations tapering away over the apical quarter only rather than over the whole length.

Taxonomic notes. The male genitalia of typical Javan material have the valves somewhat narrower and more subapically constricted than elsewhere in the geographical range. The forewing pattern appears to be similar, however.

Geographical range. Java; Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo.

Habitat preference. The species is found in lowland rainforest.
