Paranagia rufostrigata

Diagnosis.
See the generic description. The species could be confused with those in the Aediinae (see p. 26) that have the hindwings white with a broad black border, but the forewings are much more elongate, and the black hindwing border extends particularly broadly along the costa and dorsum, restricting the white to a central wedge.

Taxonomic note. The species is very variable in forewing pattern further east, variants having: the medial area variegated with white; the medial area with white patches subcostally and at the dorsum; a longitudinal rufous streak through the centre of the wing (one Bornean specimen shows this); the postmedial zone extensively dull rufous that extends basad along the dorsum asymptotically.

Geographical range. New Guinea, S. Moluccas, Sulawesi, Borneo.

Habitat preference. All material seen is from below 200m in forest and secondary vegetation. The species is infrequent.
