Diagnosis.
The reticulate pattern of black on creamy white of the forewing is distinctive within the Bornean fauna amongst noctuids. The hindwings have a similar ground colour but a fainter, simpler fasciation of two bands.

Taxonomic note. Owada (1987) placed this species in Zanclognatha, but see comments in the generic account.

Geographical range. China, Japan, Siberia, Sakhalin, Vietnam, Thailand (Kononenko & Pinratana, 2005), Sumatra; Borneo (ssp. ruptistigma).

Habitat preference. The species has been recorded infrequently between 1620m and 1930m on G. Kinabalu, and two specimens were taken at 1780m in upper montane forest on G. Mulu.
