Diagnosis. The forewing facies is diagnostic with the large brown triangle at the
centre of the costa, bounded basally by an oblique, multiple white bar running
to the tornus.
Taxonomic notes. E. phaila Prout, from Christmas I. in the Indian Ocean, appears
to be most closely related to rectilinea.
Geographical range. N.E. Himalaya, Taiwan (ssp. kanshinensis); Peninsular
Malaysia, Borneo, Bali, Sumbawa (ssp. impingens); Sulawesi (ssp. fortis).
Habitat preference. This species occurs at lower altitudes than its
Bornean congeners, in forested localities from the lowlands to 1200m, but is perhaps commonest in lower montane forest.
