Diagnosis. The subtornal 'white lips' marking on the male forewing is
diagnostic as are the rather triangular, brown and dull ochre banded hindwings.
The female has hindwings normal-shaped but similarly coloured. The forewing is
characterised by the straight medial division between a dark brown basal part
and a paler zone distally before the evenly curved submarginals.
Taxonomic notes. No differences could be found between the genitalia of abnormis and
Sri Lankan or Sundanian material attributable to metachlora. The taxa are
therefore brought into synonymy.
Geographical range. Sri Lanka, N.E. Himalaya, Sundaland, Sulawesi.
Habitat preference. The species has a wide altitudinal range but is
uncommon. It has been taken in mixed dipterocarp forest at 150m on G. Mulu, in
lower montane forest at 980m on the limestone G. Api, and between 1620m and
1930m on G. Kinabalu.
