The forewings are a dark maroon-brown with bands that are sharply defined and suffused with bluish grey, sometimes with clearer, almost iridescent rows of spots of the same colour. The hindwings are paler grey-brown, unfasciated.

Taxonomic notes. The pale bluish spots vary greatly in intensity in Bornean material, but are generally present in specimens from Peninsular Malaysia.

Geographical range. Borneo; Peninsular Malaysia (ssp. scintillulata).

Habitat preference. Most Bornean material is from G. Kinabalu, over an altitude range of 1600-2110m (three specimens). A fourth specimen was taken at 1700m on G. Mulu.
