Zythos
turbata Walker
Nobilia turbata Walker, 1862, List Specimens lepid. Insects
Colln Br. Mus., 34: 1098.
Plutodes strigularia Snellen,
[1886], Veth, Midden Sumatra 4: (8): 57.
Diagnosis. This and Zythos avellanea Prout
have similar facies. The striate dark areas
are a rusty, rather than blackish, brown in avellanea Prout, and the
green medial band meets the forewing dorsum more broadly. The male genitalia are
very different, as illustrated.
Geographical range. Borneo, S. Burma, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra,
Philippines (Mindanao).
Habitat preference. This is a frequently encountered species in lowland
rain forest, and extends also up to about 1200m. In forest near the Danum Valley
Field Centre, the species was much commoner in samples made in the understorey
than in those made in the canopy (S.J. Willott, pers. comm.).
