Diagnosis. This is the only pale grey species of the genus in Borneo, with the
forewing ocellus containing a longitudinal black streak bisected by a white
vein; the postmedial is semicircular, surrounding the ocellus on the distal
side.
Taxonomic notes. P. emphyla from Sulawesi differs little in facies or male
genitalia from achlyobathra and is therefore brought into synonymy.
Geographical range. Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo; Java (ssp. violescens);
Sulawesi (ssp. emphyla).
Habitat preference. Three specimens have been take in recent surveys, all
from lowland forest: two from Poring Hot Springs east of G. Kinabalu; one from
dipterocarp forest at 250m on the limestone G. Api.
