Scopula 9012, 18442

Scopula tenuispersata Fuchs sensu Holloway, 1976: 65.

Scopula 9012 (x 1.16)

No precise match for these specimens could be made. The bursa is elongate pyriform, basally with a short zone of sclerotisation where it is narrow. The ductus is very short, narrow, the ostium sclerotised into an angular process within, a setose ring in the lamellae vaginalis. Amongst species of similar facies such as S. tenuimedia Prout (N.E. Himalaya), S. sauteri Prout (Taiwan) and S. attentata Walker (Burma), the setose ring and short ductus are present in the first, but the base of the bursa is not sclerotised and the signum is narrow, elongate of even width; the other two species are a closer match in these features. The identity of tenuispersata Fuchs (Sumatra) and the location of the original material is unclear.

There are several specimens: from 1050m at Kundasan and 600m at Poring on the southern slopes of G. Kinabalu; from 150m in mixed dipterocarp forest at the foot of G. Mulu; from secondary forest and cocoa plantation near Kota Kinabalu and Tuaran. A male taken (1997) in the cocoa plantation has genitalia consistent with relationship to tenuimedia, but the cerata are slightly different, within a setose ring in the lamellae vaginalis.
