Urapteryx podaliriata Guenée,
1857, Hist. nat. Insectes, Spec. gen. Lep. 9: 32.
Ourapteryx podaliriata Guenée;
Holloway, 1976: 79.
Diagnosis. The species has a black spot in the small rectangular lobe at the
anterior of the hindwing tail. The hindwing has a submarginal band as well as
the more longitudinal medial one.
Taxonomic notes. In Sulawesi there is a species externally similar to podaliriata but
with distinct male genitalia (BM geometrid slide 13893).
Geographical range. Himalaya, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, Java.
Habitat preference. On G. Kinabalu a single specimen was taken at 1050m.
A singleton was recorded in forest on limestone at 250m (G. Api) during the Mulu
survey, and another has been taken at Temburong in the lowlands of Brunei. O.
podaliriata appears to be the rarest Bornean species.
