Mudaria
magniplaga Walker comb. n.
Thyatira magniplaga Walker, 1858, List Specimens Lepid. Insects Colln. Br. Mus., 15:
1643.
Plagideicta
magniplaga Walker; Holloway, 1982: 230.
Diagnosis.
The leprous
markings on the forewings of the type species and associated female are reddish
brown, only slightly paler than the ground colour. There is a small elliptical
zone on male tergite 4, and a very deep pocket on tergite 7; the uncus is
oblong, somewhat waisted; the harpe has a single central process. These
abdominal and genitalic features are also shown by a male from Brunei (slide
10031) which, with a further male and three females, has pale creamy white
leprous patches. The central patch is much larger, less elongate or broken than
in other species; the 8-shaped apical patch is much larger and more regular.
Geographical
range. Borneo.
Habitat
preference. The
type material is probably from the lowlands, as are those specimens with pale
patches except for a possible female from 1618m. on Bukit Retak, Brunei.
Biology.
The Brunei
males and a putative female (not dissected) were reared from Durio zibethinus
fruits (Bombacaceae).
