“Eulocastra” albipunctella Hampson
(Plate 3)
Eulocastra albipunctella Hampson, 1918, Novit.
zool., 25: 186.
Diagnosis and
taxonomic note. The facies
is very similar to that of typical Naarda Walker (Holloway, 2008), but the species is smaller
than any Bornean member of that genus, and has a transversely elongate pale yellow
discal spot to the forewings that is surrounded by black. However, the labial
palps are very much shorter and smaller than in Naarda, not protruding
beyond the head. It is somewhat similar to the Indian E. phaella Hampson, and both are atypical of the genus in
facies.
Geographical range. Borneo.
Habitat preference. Only the holotype is known, taken on Pulo Laut, an island close to
the south‑east of Borneo.
