Paectes
roseovincta Warren
Callingura reseovincta Warren,
1914, Novit. zool. 21: 276.
Paectes euphiles Prout, 1928, Bull. Hill Mus., Witley 2:163,
syn. n.
Paectes euphiles Prout; Holloway, 1976: 17; Barlow, 1982: 91.
Diagnosis. The striking green, black and pale fawn pattern of the forewing is
unmistakable.
Taxonomic notes. There appears to be no distinction between roseovincta and euphiles
in either wing pattern or genitalia, hence the names are brought into
synonymy.
The sister-species, with similarly patterned but more elongate forewings,
is kebeae Bethune-Baker from New Guinea. Both species also have
modification to the ventral process of the male valve: a ventral angle in kebeae
and an interior flange in roseovincta.
Geographical range. Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo.
Habitat preference. Though a single specimen has been taken from lowland
rainforest at Labi, Brunei, all other specimens have been taken in upper montane
forest, four on Bukit Retak, Brunei, at 1620m and two on G. Kinabalu at 1930m.
