This
sequence contains genera where the eighth abdominal segment of the male is
strikingly modified, though not obviously of the framed corematous type, and
other genera traditionally considered to be allied to such genera. The two focal
genera of this type are Ugia Walker and Avitta
Walker.
Those from Bocula Guenée onwards have more individual modifications,
though Batracharta Walker and Phorica Walker
are a related pair. The modification of the eighth segment is weakest in the Avitta
group
(Avitta
to
Chrysopera
Hampson).
Females have the ostium mostly associated with
the eighth segment. When this is not the case, it is always between the eighth
and seventh, never associated with the latter.
