Batracharta
nigritogata Prout
Batracharta
nigritogata Prout, 1921, Ann. Mag. nat. Hist. (9),
8: 28.
Diagnosis.
The somewhat 8-shaped indigo area over the basal part of the forewing costa,
surrounded by a finely rippled cream and dark brown area, is distinctive.
Taxonomic
note. B. walkeri Bethune-Baker is a similar species from New Guinea,
though the forewing is darker with its indigo area relatively larger. In B.
albistrigosata Warren (N.E. Himalaya, Thailand (VK)), the indigo area is
narrower and less clearly defined.
Geographical
range. Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia, Sulawesi.
Habitat
preference. Four Bornean specimens have been seen, three from lowland
localities near the coast: Bidi in Sarawak; Anduki in Brunei; Samarinda in
Kalimantan. The fourth is from inland lowland forest at 300m in the Ulu
Temburong of Brunei.
