Psimada
hybrida Prout comb. n.
Mecodina
hybrida Prout, 1926, Sarawak Mus. J., 3: 239.
Psimada
hybrida
(holotype) |
|
Diagnosis.
This species has facies similar to the female of Psimada quadripennis with
a truncated costal triangle on the forewing but the ground colour is of a more
purplish tint, and the paler marginal zone of the hindwing weakens and fades
away with distance from the tornus as in Mecodina species
such as leucosticta
Hampson
and albodentata
Swinhoe.
Taxonomic
note. Though the male antennae lack the lamellate swelling of the
type species, the structure of the male abdomen indicates the species is better
associated with Psimada, particularly the tyre-like thickening to the valve
margin. The strong cornuti of the aedeagus vesica are shared both with Psimada
and
Mecodina
lanceola Guenée.
Geographical
range. Borneo, Sumatra, Peninsular Malaysia (Barlow Colln), Thailand (VK).
Habitat
preference. In Borneo the species is only known from the holotype, a male
(noted as female in the original description) from G. Murud in Sarawak. No
altitude is given on the label data.
