Barbesola Walker
Gen. rev.
Type
species: defixa Walker.
This
monobasic genus has been subordinated to Oglasa but
is unrelated. The facies is described below. The male antennae are fasciculate,
and the mid-tibia is densely scaled as in Oglasa,
however.
The male
abdomen has the eighth segment only slightly modified. The tergite has a pair of
very shallow apodemes and the sternite has has one similar central one; the
latter is slightly bilobed distally but is uniformly sclerotised, lacking
coremata. The genitalia have a slender uncus with a slightly hooked apex. The
saccus is broad. There is a transtilla formed from extension of each valve costa,
each extension having a slightly rugose dorsal peak subapically. The valves are
robust with a strong costa that has a central expansion that bears setae. The
ventral margin of the valve has a dense fringe of dark setae. The aedeagus
vesica is globular with slight diverticula and some sparse, coarse scobination,
particularly on a tongue-like distal diverticulum.
The
female genitalia have a wide ostium between the seventh and eighth segments,
opening into a scobinate or rugose ductus that is shorter than the ostium is
wide. There is a slight constriction where the ductus opens into an elongate,
ovate corpus bursae that is slightly and finely rugose throughout, and the
ductus seminalis arises from the constriction.
