Goniocraspedon Hampson
Type
species: mistura Swinhoe, Indian Subregion, Christmas I..
The
genus consists of species that have a more variegated, fasciated wing facies
than those in the previous genus, Parilyrgis and
the next, the wings being slightly shorter and deeper. The fasciation is only
weak in the type species, however. The labial palps are directed forwards, the
second segment moderate, the third short, more narrow. The male antennae are
bipectinate.
In the
male abdomen, the eighth segment is of the framed corematous type, the tergite
with heavier sclerotisation in a central band and along the anterior margin,
like a letter ‘T’. The uncus is slender, moderate in length, and the valves
variable in shape. The vinculum is broad, rather angular, slightly produced
laterally as well as distally. The aedeagus vesica is smaller than in the other
Bornean genera in the group, resembling that in Parilyrgis.
The
female genitalia have a distinct, deciduous tuft of scales associated with the
eighth segment. The ostium is also associated with the anterior of this segment
with a broad but shallow, slightly corrugated pocket. The ductus is short,
narrow, the corpus bursae ovate with extensive coarse scobination.
The
genus consists of the type species, those described below, and G.
aroa Bethune-Baker
(New Guinea). The last is listed by Poole (1989), but appears not to relate to
the type species; it is currently included in the Hypeninae in BMNH. The record
of the type species from Australia by Nielsen et
al. (1996)
needs checking in view of the complexity of species
discussed below, as does the subfamily placement of the genus (see under Ilyrgis).
