Diagnosis.
This is a highly variable dark greenish brown species with typical gonopterine
forewing shape and fasciation. There are paler transverse bands basal to the
antemedial and distal to the postmedial; both these fasciae are centrally dark
but edged whitish on each side. Variation is mainly in the occurrence and
breadth (1mm or 2mm) of a pale creamy white longitudinal delineation of vein
CuA1 from the base to the postmedial and (correlated), whether the reniform is
obscure, narrowly surrounded by pale delineation or enlarged, creamy white.
Geographical
range. Himalaya, Sumatra, Java, Borneo, Luzon, Sulawesi, Seram (ssp. chlora),
New Guinea.
Habitat
preference. The species is frequent from 1600m to 2600m, commoner in the
upper part of this range on G. Kinabalu, but also recorded from G. Mulu and on
Bukit Retak in Brunei.
