Diagnosis. See the previous species; the wings are
a darker brown, the forewings with a purple-violet tinge and more uniform. Some
specimens have the discal and marginal spots picked out in pale yellow (leucosticta) and some have
broader areas of pale mauve medially (ab. decorata Warren).
Geographical range. N.E. Himalaya
(ssp. tenebrosa); Thailand (VK), Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo.
Habitat preference. The species is found from the
lowlands to 2600m, but is perhaps more common at higher altitudes.
