Plusia albosignata Walker, 1864, J. Proc. Linn. Soc. (Zool.), 7: 72.
Bertula tespisalis
Diagnosis. This is a relatively small, darkish grey species, the forewing with almost straight, transverse fasciation where the grey grades paler or darker (the medial zone is paler) to a sharp boundary. There is a small but prominent white discal bar just basal to the postmedial. The male antennae are strongly bipectinate, and the labial palps are directed back over the head with the third segment having a buff hair-pencil, and reaching the centre of the thorax.
Geographical range. Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia.
Habitat preference. During the Mulu survey, the species was only taken (tenspecimens) in lower montane forest at 1000m on G. Mulu, but the species was described from material collected by A.R Wallace, probably in the lowlands, and all other material taken in recent surveys is also from localities at or below 300m. Chey (1994) recorded it in a variety of softwood plantations near Brumas in the lowlands of Sabah, particularly those of Paraserianthes falcataria and Eucalyptus deglupta.
