Diagnosis. The forewings are variable from uniform to variegated grey, with antemedial and postmedial fasciae that are pale within dark edges and both angled, the angle apex usually rather rounded. There is a white discal spot, and often a darker sagittate mark in the submarginal opposite the postmedial angle. See also A. erebusalis above.
Taxonomic note. Poole (1989) indicated the type was in OUMNH, Oxford, but it is in fact in BMNH.
Geographical range. Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia, Indian Subregion, Philippines.
Habitat preference. The holotype was taken in Sarawak by A.R. Wallace, probably in the lowlands. Three specimens have been taken in recent surveys. Two are from Brunei, one from the edge of Rhizophora mangrove forest on the coast near Muara and the other in primary dipterocarp forest at about 500m in the Ulu Temburong. The third is from dipterocarp forest at 945m on G. Monkobo in Sabah.
