14-15mm. The forewing facies is atypical of Hypena in being divided into basal black and distal medium grey areas, separated at a curved boundary that runs from the centre of the costa to about three quarters along the dorsum as illustrated. The distal grey area has slightly rippled variegation roughly parallel to this curved boundary. The hindwings are a browner medium grey. The male genitalia, however, are typical of the genus, the valves being unmodified, much as in jugalis and ochradelpha (see above).

Holotype . SARAWAK: Gunong Mulu Nat. Park, R.G.S. Exped. 1977-8 (J.D. Holloway et al.), Site 23, April, W. Melinau Gorge, 250m, 430558, FEG 4, limestone forest, BM noctuid slide 19592.

Paratypes: 2 as holotype; 1 general data as holotype but Site 16, March, Long Pala, Base, 70m. 413461, alluv. / second. for.; 1 MALAYSIA: Sabah, Danum Valley, 170m, 4°58’N 117°48’E (S.J. Willott), 1° Canopy JC, Cpy Walkway, BRL, 6.vii.95; 2 Bidi, SARAWAK, 1907-1908 (C.J. Brooks).

Geographical range. Borneo.

Habitat preference. All material is from lowland forest, that from the Mulu survey mostly on limestone.
