Hampson
Siglophora cymographa Hampson, 1912, Cat. Lepid. Phalaenae Br. Mus.,
11: 474.
Siglophora cymographa Hampson; Kobes, 1997: 41.
Diagnosis. Males of this and S. langei Kobes have a strong black lobe
to the hindwing dorsum, though the hindwing is generally darker grey in
langei. The forewing costa is more swollen centrally in langei, with
more conspicuous tufts of black scales in that area on the underside. The
forewing is generally yellow, but with a series of transverse red-brown
squiggles and shading that is more dense in an area from the centre of the costa,
broadening to span from the centre of the dorsum to the centre of the distal
margin, the basal boundary of this denser zone being strongly curved. In
langei this zone is blacker.
Geographical range. Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra.
Habitat preference.
Only four specimens have been taken in recent
surveys, two from lowland dipterocarp forest at Barito Ulu in Kalimantan and two
from Brunei: 60m at Labi in lowland forest; 1365m on Bukit Retak in upper
montane mossy forest. The holotype is from the lowland locality of Sandakan in
Sabah.
