This
subfamily is based on the genus that follows but may also include the New World
genus Baileya Grote according to Forbes (1954), though there are no
strong synapomorphies evident except for similarity in forewing pattern
(Holloway, 1998). Baileya was paired with
Meganola
in the molecular study of Mitchell et al. (2000), these being the only
two Nolidae in the sample. Tymbal organs are lacking, and the type genus has a
number of distinctive features to the male genitalia as described below.
