Urbona
Walker
Type
species: sublineata
Walker, Borneo.
Synonyms: Nagasena
Moore (type species
albescens
Moore, India).
The curvature of the forewing dorsum and margin, together with the straight costa, are reminiscent of the previous genus, but the wing is narrower, the
tornus slightly more strongly curved, and the sometimes straight, oblique
postmedial runs nearer the base of the dorsum to the apex across a pale silvery
grey ground. The reniform is also bipunctate but obscure. The hindwings are
darker, a medium greyish-brown.
The male genitalia have an uncus, tegumen and vinculum more as in
Westermannia. The valves are relatively long, expanding from a narrow base
to an obliquely rounded apex, the costa tending to be more or less straight,
though with slight, obtuse angles and usually a spur near the apex, which may be
slightly falcate.
The female genitalia have a short, tubular, sclerotised ductus and a rather
elongate, pyriform bursa, the neck of which is straight-sided with a broad zone
of sclerotisation on one side. The rest of the bursa is extensively scobinate
and corrugated, with a strong signum near the base of the bulb consisting of a
transversely oval sclerotisation with spines directed away from the shorter,
longitudinal axis.
All Indo-Australian taxa are mentioned below except for
U.
tamsi
van
Eecke comb. n. (=
novaeguineensis
Gaede (ex Strand) syn. n.) from New Guinea and the Bismarck Is. Its male
genitalia (slide 17369) suggest a relationship to
U. leucophaea
Walker. African representatives include
U.
lacteata
Hampson comb. rev. and
U.
nivea
Hampson comb. n. The taxon
chlorocrota
Hampson, transferred to Urbona by Poole (1989), is misplaced as discussed
below; it is probably not even a nolid.
