Kunugia
gynandra Swinhoe comb. n.
Metanastria gynandra Swinhoe, 1893, Ann. Mag. nat. Hist (6) 12: 212.
Cyclophragma gynandra Swinhoe; Holloway, 1982: 197.
Diagnosis. The forewings are very dark brown, the central fasciae standing
out paler on either side of the medial zone, more definite than the more
basal or distal ones, which are multiple, dark, crenulate. Females are
much larger with similar fasciation on a paler ground colour.
Taxonomic notes. Typical Javan specimens have the strong fasciae bounding
the medial zone angled centrally rather than uniformly curved, the more
basal of the two more sharply so.
Geographical range. N. Thailand, Sundaland.
Habitat preference. The species is most frequent in lowland rainforest but
has been taken as high as 1618m on Bukit Retak in Brunei.
