Benbowia kiriakoffi sp. n.

Benbowia kiriakoffi
(holotype)

Benbowia kiriakoffi
(paratype)

17-18mm, 23 mm. The forewing green ground colour is slightly bluer than in virescens; the fasciation is very similar but for the sagittate black mark on the submarginal just subcostally, which is much more pronounced than in virescens. The hindwing dorsum is generally suffused with dark brown. The main difference is in the male genitalia where the socii are set further apart, are straight, broad ended, rather than adjacent, outcurved, apically serrate; the serrate ventral processes of the valve are rounded rather than acute; the serrate margin to the eighth tergite is broadly bilobed rather than monolobed.

Holotype SARAWAK: Gunong Mulu Nat. Park, R. G. S. Exped. 1977 - 8 (J. D. Holloway et al.), BM 1978 - 206, Site 14, February, Camp 2.5, Mulu, 1000 m. 413461, lower montane forest, BM notodontid slide 612.

Paratypes. 1 BRUNEI: 300 m Ulu Temburong, rain forest, 29.4.81 (Lt. Col. M. G. Allen), BM notodontid slide 1054; 1 SABAH: Mt. Kinabalu, Power Station, 1930 m (Banks, Barlow & Holloway) 1965.

Other material (not dissected) is from lowland forest in Brunei and also 1618 m on Bukit Retak, and from lower montane forest (900 m) on the limestone G. Api, Sarawak.

Geographical range. Borneo.

Habitat preference. The species is rarer than virescens but has been recorded from a similarly wide range of habitats.
