Clostera
dorsalis Walker
Ichthyura dorsalis Walker 1862, J. Linn. Soc. Lond.
Zool. 6:134.
Pygaera geminata Gaede 1930: 647, syn. n.
Clostera dorsalis Walker.; Kiriakoff, 1968: 254.
Diagnosis. The species varies from brown to deep indigo in forewing colour but can
be distinguished by the large, dark, round reniform and the course of the
postmedial, flexed at one third from the costa, not quite parallel to the
margin, being nearer to it at the tornus than at the apex.
Taxonomic note. The species forms a natural group with C. tapa Roepke (Java)
which has much paler hindwings and slightly different genitalia (see description
of the synonymous C. deldeni by Kiriakoff (1960)), and an
undescribed species from Sulawesi (BM notodontid slide 1170).
Geographical range. Borneo, Sumatra.
Habitat preference. Three specimens where habitat was recorded were from
lower montane forest on limestone (G. Api), and, from lowland Brunei, dry heath
forest and mixed dipterocarp forest.
