Phalera grotei Moore
Phalera grotei Moore, 1859, in Horsfield & Moore,
Cat. lepid. Insects in Mus. Hon. E. India
Co 2: 434.
Phalera grotei Moore; Holloway 1982a: 201.
Diagnosis. This species is easily confused with the next, sundana Holloway,
but has narrower forewings that are a more uniform and leaden grey colour and
lack the pale area with black submarginal dots at the tornus. In the male
genitalia the uncus is more slender than the gnathal processes rather than
broader. Other characters are given by Holloway (1982a).
Taxonomic note. This and the next species belong to a group of largely allopatric
species that ranges from India to the Solomon Is. (Holloway 1982a, b).
Geographical range. India to Sumatra and Borneo.
Habitat preference. In Borneo known from three males from lowland forest.
