Arctornis plumbacea Swinhoe
comb. n.
Cobanilla
plumbacea Swinhoe,
1903, Fasc. Malay., 1: 62.
Diagnosis. Both plumbacea and ouria Collenette (See
Arctornis ouria Collenette comb.n) have rather
translucent pale brown or greyish brown wings with, on the forewing, a diffusely
darker discal spot and a sinuous postmedial row of spots. The forewing margin
has a diagnostic central angle in plumbacea, and the postmedial row of
spots is nearer the margin, broader. Females of each are much paler, the ground
colour bone-white.
Taxonomic note. Both species have R1 and R2 arising independently from Rs at the cell,
though R2 in ouria has a brief anastomosis with R5 beyond the branch of
R5. The male genitalia in both have a strongly bifid uncus and a double harpe on
the valve.
Geographical range. Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo.
Habitat preference. This is a rare species of lowland forest, but records
from near the Danum Valley Field Centre indicate it can persist in logged
forest.
