"Euproctis” fusipennis
Walker
Euproctis
fusipennis
Walker, 1862, J. Linn. Soc. (Zool.), 6:128.
Diagnosis. The species is creamy white with a yellowish brush to the abdomen. It
resembles Toxoproctis helpsi
though without a sparse scattering
of black scales on the forewing, and lacks vein M2 in the hindwing. It is not
illustrated as the plates were photographed before its identity could be
investigated.
Taxonomic note. This taxon is represented by the holotype female and one more recent
female only. The absence of M2 in the hindwing indicates affinity to the genera Somena,
Orvasca and Sphrageidus, but more precise generic placement must
await the availability of a male.
Geographical range. Borneo.
Habitat preference. The original specimen was taken by Wallace in
Sarawak, probably in the lowlands. The more recent female was taken amid
mangrove in Brunei.
