Sundaroa flaveofusca Swinhoe
comb. n.
Aroa
flaveofusca Swinhoe,
1902, Ann. Mag. nat. Hist. (7), 9: 80.
Diagnosis. The ground colour of both wings is orange. The male has the forewing
orange largely obscured by black scales, slightly lighter centrally around the
discal dot. The hindwing is black except for a marginal semicircle of orange
that also extends up the dorsum. The female has the hindwing entirely black
except for the fringes, and the greatest intensity of black on the forewing is
the reverse of that in the male. The next species is the most similar to flaveofusca.
Geographical range. Borneo.
Habitat preference. This species is rare, taken mainly in lowland
localities such as Lawas and Sandakan in Sabah. There is also a specimen from Mt.
Marapok without altitude data.
