Some features of the subfamily have been discussed in the introductory
section to the Syntominae and Euchromiinae starting on Syntominae
and Euchromiinae, though this
discussion is based primarily on the type genus Euchromia. Features of Euchromia
are described below. The subfamily as currently recognised is most diverse
in the Neotropics. The numerous genera have hindwing venation as in Euchromia
with Sc + Rs and M1 connate at the anterior angle of the cell and two veins
(possibly M3 and CuA) connate or stalked at the posterior angle. A second anal
vein can be present or absent. CuA sometimes divides into its components
distally but is usually unbranched. The venation of many genera is illustrated
by Hampson (1898).
