Eugoa
bipuncta Heylaerts
Paidia bipuncta Heylaerts, 1891, Annls Soc. ent.
Belg., 35:
414.
Lectotype
implicitly designated by Hampson, 1900, Cat.
Lepid. Phalaenae
Br. Mus., 2: 547.
Eugoa bipunctata heylaertsi Seitz, 1914, Gross-Schmett.
Erde, 10: 121, replacement
name for
bipunctata Heylaerts (sic; praeocc.).
Diagnosis.
This is a
much smaller species than the previous two. The forewing discal spot is
relatively more basal, the postmedial straighter and almost transverse, with
very much less dark brown suffusion in the half of the wing basal to it.
Taxonomic
note. There
appears to have been considerable nomenclatural confusion in the literature
between this species and bipunctata, as
illustrated by creation of the unjustified replacement name heylaertsi for ‘bipunctata’
Heylaerts, with bipuncta Heylaerts
being treated as a good species on the following page.
Geographical
range. Sundaland,
Sulawesi, Lesser Sundas.
Habitat
preference. Three
specimens have been taken in an area of disturbed lowland forest at 600m at
Poring on the eastern slopes of G. Kinabalu. A few older specimens were taken at
Tenom in the lowlands of Sabah.
