Diagnosis. The
forewing fasciae are more transverse than in bipunctata and are broader,
diffusing away paler distad. The hindwings are pale grey. The next species is
also similar but has more oblique fasciae. Only females are known, and the
ductus and bursa are extremely broad, the lamella postvaginalis a squarish plate
with spines at each of the two distal corners.
Taxonomic note.
This species had been placed as a synonym of bipunctata by Hampson (1900) but is
distinct. The taxon formosicola Matsumura may be referable to basipuncta.
Geographical range. S.
India, Java, Borneo, ?Taiwan (formosicola).
Habitat preference. The
only Bornean specimen seen is from Sandakan in Sabah.
