Diagnosis. This and the next two species have a transverse row of translucent
patches on the forewing postmedially. In specularis the wing margins are
more irregular, and the hindwing is less reduced, more normal in shape in the
male, and more heavily marked in both sexes. The margin at the forewing tornus
does not have strong dark markings. The female is the same colour as the male
except for a rufous tinge to the hindwing: the centre of the hindwing margin is
produced, slightly dentate, but the tornus is not conspicuously excavate.
Geographical range. Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia.
Habitat preference. This is a lowland species. Never common, it has been
taken in a variety of forest types, including alluvial and heath forests.
