Pseuderosia cristata Snellen,
1889, Tijdschr. Ent., 32: 15.
Diagnosis. See the generic description and the diagnosis of Pseuderosia
desmierdechenoni sp. n..
Geographical range. Sundaland.
Habitat preference. This is a lowland species, probably more frequent in
forested localities.
Biology. Steiner (in litt.) has reared cristata from the palm, Korthalsia
rigida, in Peninsular Malaysia. The larva is illustrated above. It is
variegated black and pinkish red, with slender pink scoli and white spots and
bars. The head is red over the front half, posteriorly black. In addition to the
normal scoli, there are four dark red, setose, balloon-like processes at around
A2-3, two on each side adjacent to each other subdorsally. The species has also
been reared from oil palm (Elaeis) in Sumatra (R. Desmier de Chenon, pers.
comm.)
