Pelagodes
semihyalina Walker comb. n.
Geometra semihyalina Walker,
1861, List Specimens lepid. Insects Colln Br. Mus. 22: 528.
Diagnosis. This is the smallest species. The fasciation is not as clearly
defined as in congeners. Features of the male abdomen that are diagnostic
include: long, slender, tapering, acute processes on the eighth segment; long
tapering valves with a costal spur; an elongate juxta with large, prominent,
sclerotised dorsal horns.
Taxonomic
notes. Unfortunately the holotype male
of semihyalina has lost part of its abdomen and is rather worn and faded.
On balance the facies appears to resemble that of the series discussed here
rather than of the next species. Also the montane character of the next species
contrasts with the likely lowland provenance of the holotype of semihyalina, a
specimen collected by A.R. Wallace.
Geographical range. Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra.
Habitat preference. The species is frequent in lowland forest, particularly alluvial
forest.
