Maxates sp.
This species is known from only a single female specimen that resembles M.
thetydaria in size and pattern. However, the green bands are somewhat
irregular in course, rather than straight, and the margins are broadly but
diffusely suffused with dull greyish red.
The specimen (slide 8674) is from Brumas in the lowlands of Sabah,
collected at a time when there was still extensive primary forest there,
now mainly softwood plantations (Chey, 1994). M. thetydaria is
montane.
