Maxates iridescoides sp. n.
Maxates iridescoides (holotype) |

12-13mm. This is a
small species with very pale green ground colour and well-defined, zig-zag white
fasciae. The green is darker over the medial zone and towards the distal margins
of the wings. It is related to the Himalayan Maxates iridescens Warren
comb. n., misplaced in Jodis Hübner. The Bornean species is a bluer,
less bright green, with more irregular fasciation, the white elements more
crenulate, distinct. The male genitalia have the saccus less elongate, slender
than in iridescens, and the ventral lobe of the valve is acute rather
than rounded. The excavation of the eighth sternite is similar.
