Perixera
dotilla Swinhoe comb. n.
Anisodes dotilla Swinhoe, 1894, Trans. ent. Soc. Lond., 1894:
179.
Diagnosis. This is a large, rather uniformly dark pink species with large orange
discal spots that are white-pupilled. P. flavispila Warren is a paler
species with a clearer, more yellow-orange discal spot to the hindwing, and the
ground colour is fawn rather than pink. P. pyrrhocrica Prout is smaller,
the fasciae more definite, with the forewing discal mark a black dot rather than
a smaller version of that on the hindwing, which is very large and also orange
in pyrrhocrica.
Taxonomic notes. The male has coremata on the fourth sternite and basal to the genitalia.
The uncus is distinctive, though reduced.
Geographical range. N.E. Himalaya, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo, Sulawesi.
Habitat preference. A single old specimen from Borneo has been located, a
female from the lowlands of Kalimantan near Pontianak.
Biology. Bell (MS) reared what was probably this species in S. India, identifying
it as P. obliviaria (probable vouchers in series of dotilla). The
larva is uniform green, cylindrical, tapering slightly anteriorly. The pupa is
typically cosymbiine in shape and suspension. The host-plant was Derris (Leguminosae).
