Perixera interpulsata

Perixera interpulsata

Diagnosis. See Perixera sabulosa Warren comb. n. There is also a resemblance to the next species, but P. arenosaria Moore is more speckled on a paler ground, with the medial fasciae more finely defined and irregularly zig-zag. There is more intense grey clouding submarginally in arenosaria.

Taxonomic notes. The triangular uncus and bifid valve with coremata suggest a close relationship with arenosaria, but arenosaria lacks coremata on the fourth sternite: these are present in interpulsata.

Geographical range. N.E. Himalaya, Peninsular Malaysia, Borneo.

Habitat preference. All Bornean records are from G. Kinabalu in the upper montane zone (1600-1930m).

Biology. Bell (MS) reared a species in S. India he identified as interpulsata, but vouchers have not been located to enable this to be checked. Confusion with the next species, which occurs in Sri Lanka, is possible. The larva is dull, light lilac-mauve, the setae arising from black dots, and with paler longitudinal lines. T1 is yellow anteriorly, and A5 yellow in the spiracular region. The segmental margins between A1 and A4 are conspicuously white. The head is strongly suffused black. The pupa is pale green and pinkish white, of typical cosymbiine shape and mode of suspension.

The host-plant was Polyalthia (Lauraceae).
