Mariaba Walker
Type species: convoluta Walker.
Synonym: Adeta Warren (type species semifascia Warren, New
Guinea).
A close relative of Onagrodes, Mariaba has
male sexual modifications that distinguish it: very much more deepened forewings
(expanded at the dorsum); rather reduced, square or triangular hindwings that
are plain dorsally yet fasciated on the underside (strongly so in semifascia).
The main expansion of the hindwings is in the anal area posterior to the
cell, and the more or less uniformly coloured scales on the upperside are
presumably androconial.
The male genitalia have the saccus enlarged, squarish, and the sacculus
is distinctly angular.
The genus consists of the type species and M. semifascia Warren
(New Guinea, Solomons, Sulawesi).
