Symmacra solidaria

Diagnosis. The wings are dull olive-green, faintly fasciated transversely. The hindwing discal mark consists of a fine white bar, broken centrally.

Taxonomic note. The relative lengths of uncus and socii and depth with which the apex of the valve is cleft varies through the range of the species, and several subspecies can probably be recognised (e.g. validaria in Sulawesi, ochrea in New Guinea and baptata in Fiji and Samoa, the latter a much paler insect (see Robinson, 1975)).

Geographical range. Indo-Australian tropics east to Fiji and Samoa.

Habitat preference. The species is infrequent in Borneo, specimens taken during the Mulu survey being from alluvial forest, including the early successional phase, and dipterocarp forest (250m) and lower montane forest (900m) on limestone.
