Metallaxis
Prout
Type species: semiustus
Swinhoe.
In facies, species
of Metallaxis resemble those of Symmacra and Dithecodes, but
with large ochreous and reddish patches on both wings.
In the genitalia
(only males of the type species have been located) the uncus is rod-like,
apically bulbous, the valves apically bilobed or tapering and with a convolute
process in the centre of the costa.
Typically this genus
is Oriental, but three Madagascar species are also currently included. M. semipurpurascens
Hampson (N.E. Himalaya, Hong Kong) is misplaced, having characteristically
scopuline male genitalia.
