Acrodontis insularis sp. n

Acrodontis insularis (paratype)

35-40mm. The facies is as in the generic description and resembles most closely that of A. aenigma hunana Wehrli. The forewings are less strongly or irregularly falcate, and the margins of both wings are generally smoother. The male genitalia are distinguished by lack of a lobe to the ventral part of the setal zone on the valve costa and presence of a large single spine at the valve apex rather than a more generally serrate or spined band.

Holotype . SARAWAK: Gunung Mulu Nat. Park, R.G.S Exped. 1977-8 (J.D. Holloway et al.) Site 22, April, W. Melinau Gorge, 150m, 421578 wet kerangas, BM geometrid slide 12680.

Paratypes. 5 general data as holotype: 3 at Site 20,422577, same habitat; 1 at Site 23, 250m, FEG4, limestone forest; 1 at Site 25, G. Api, 900m, 427550.

Geographical range. Borneo, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Sulawesi (Palu region).

Habitat preference. Bornean material seen is all from the W. Melinau Gorge area of the Gunung Mulu National Park where the species appears to be restricted to wet heath forest (kerangas) and dipterocarp forest at low elevations on limestone slopes (G. Api). One specimen was taken at 900m in lower montane forest on G. Api. Sulawesi material is from an altitude range of 300- 1000m.
