Diagnosis. The species is small, variable in facies, the males mostly a uniform
speckled brown with fasciae only weakly defined darker. The females are slightly
larger, more strongly fasciated, especially the distinctively bisinuate
postmedial of the forewing; the forewing medial area is often much paler,
sometimes accentuated by a strong dark brown edging distal to the postmedial.
The asymmetric, four pronged juxta in the male genitalia and the coarse, sparse
rings of spines in the bursa of the female are also diagnostic.
Geographical range. Borneo.
Habitat preference. On G. Kinabalu expleta is very common in the
zone from 1500-2000m, ranging from 1200m to 2110m. It was taken abundantly in
the upper montane zone (similar altitudes) of G. Mulu and has also been recorded
in the same zone on G. Api, and from Bukit Retak and Bukit Pagon in Brunei.
