Diagnosis. This and the next species are much larger than B. expleta, with a
distinctively angled postmedial to the forewing. Whilst versicolor has
the hindwing mainly clear pale orange, diffusely bordered brown along the dorsum
and margin, derivata has a duller, browner hindwing with more, albeit
faint fasciae. In the male genitalia the gnathus and uncus are relatively much
longer than in derivata, but the juxta filaments are longer and more
robust in the latter. The central lobe to the valve is diagnostic for versicolor.
Geographical range. Borneo.
Habitat preference. The species has only been recorded from G. Kinabalu,
where it is abundant at higher altitudes, ranging from 2110m to 3150m, commonest
at around 2600m.
