Achrosis
alienata Walker stat. rev., comb. n.
Osicerda alienata Walker, 1862, List Specimens lepid. Insects
Colln Br. Mus. 24: 1084.
Diagnosis. This is a small species with, in the male, almost black forewings. The
hindwings are bright yellow, with a broadly blackish dorsum. The female has the
forewing slightly paler except for the fasciae.
Taxonomic notes. This taxon has been regarded as a synonym of A. rondelaria Fabricius,
but is distinct both in facies (smaller, darker grey forewings that are
narrower, and yellower hindwings) and male genitalia (more club-like furca arms,
broadly setose apically).
Geographical range. Java, Sumatra, Borneo.
Habitat preference. The species was taken in numbers at 250m on the lower
slopes of the limestone G. Api (dipterocarp forest) and in adjacent alluvial
forests west of the Melinau Gorge. Only one other specimen has been taken
recently, at 100m in the Ulu Temburong of Brunei.
